Pull Over Already

Last week, yet again, I witnessed the selfishness of some really stupid people. I have seen it more and more often and it still amazes me. I don't think you're allowed to drive if your deaf and blind so I really see no excuse for you not pulling your car out of the way of the ambulance. It's got lights and sirens. Don't be so oblivious. Your driving a 2 ton killing machine. You don't get to be oblivious! You pay attention to what's going on around you.
Maybe it's bothering me more and more as I have two children who may be on the road themselves soon. But seriously if you can't pay enough attention to pull over and let the ambulance past you, you shouldn't be behind the wheel of a car. And as I tell my children, as you pull out of the way you should be hoping and praying that they are not rushing to get to someone you know and love. If they are don't you want them to get there as fast as they can? So move over! You should also be thankful if they are not. Common courtesy and sense should reign and get you to pull your butt out of the way sooner, not later. Sure it's a pain in the butt and not convenient for you. Get over yourself. Think about whomever is in there. Whomever they are trying to get to. Have some compassion for other people. Stop being so selfish. If you have to drive with the radio a little lower to keep yourself aware, that's a sacrifice you should make for the right to drive. We all don't want to listen to your choice of music anyway.
Driving is a privilege not a right. No I'm not a perfect driver. We all screw up and don't always drive with the best intentions. Our moods and frame of mind can definitely play into that. When you hear that siren though, the signal in your brain should work correctly. It should have you think about whomever that siren is blaring for. No matter who they are. And for the five minutes or so it takes for the ambulance to get by you, thank your lucky stars your family is safe and give a thought to those who are not. Maybe you'll get where you're going 5 minutes later. You'll still get there. Someone else may not be. With that thought in your head it should be a lot easier to get out of the way.
