I said earlier how I was waiting to get this new Nicholas Sparks book. It did not take me more than a few days after that posting for me to get it from my new library. Finished it last night. Through most of it I was glad I had not purchased it as it seemed to be kind of blah. I kept pushing through, tempted more than a few times to give it up. Sure most of my romance girlie books are all somewhat the same. As my husband loves to point out in the movies too. The good ones have a little extra twist or something more to make the story that much better. Worthy of reading or watching over and over again and becoming a favorite. Or a message or meaning so powerful it'll stick with you. You may not read it ever again but you'll always remember it so well you won't have to. I think 'Safe Haven' has the latter.
I am glad I pushed through and read the whole thing. Really it's such easy fluff reading and his books are usually short so it's not hard to finish. The end was definitely worth it. And I was left wondering if I could be that strong. Of course I'm mostly talking to the women out there who these books are written for. Sure there's the typical love story. Katie(not her real name) has run away from her abusive husband. She settles in a sleepy North Carolina town. Where all Mr. Sparks books seem to be based. Falls in love with the widower store owner who happens to have two kids. Of course you know the crazy ex will eventually find her. How it all comes down is why you read it. But there's also another story having to do with the widowers deceased wife. Which is what really makes this book worth reading.
Yeah great she got away from the bad ex and was able to find happiness again. I'm not big on abusive stories which is why I almost gave up on this one. I just really don't care to read about them, fictional or not, There's too much of the real thing that goes on. I'll take my fiction light and fluffy most times, thank you. It's Carly the deceased wife that steals this story. And of course has you breaking out the tissues. And at least left me wondering, "Could I do that?" I won't give you anymore in case you want to go out and read for yourself. If you do I'd love to hear your take on it.
Next up for me is 'Don't Blink' by James Patterson and Howard Roughan. As much as I like Patterson I cannot take anymore Alex Cross. So now I only read his other stuff. It's been awhile and I'm looking forward to starting. On to chapter one...
